If you can handle the dirt that will be upon you from the chimney, you can always clean it all by yourself. The thing which you will need is a brush which is of a size which is appropriate for your chimney size. A stove store or a hardware store is where you can find these brushes to clean the chimney. Do not forget to place a dry cloth just below the chimney at the fireplace so that the dirt falls and collects on it.

Cleaning it with the brush can be carried out from the top of the roof too. If you can get someone to aid you the things can be done quickly. Have items like a strong flashlight, safety goggles, vacuum cleaner, gloves and dust mask with you before starting the cleaning job. Make sure that the temperature of the chimney is not high else you might get burnt in the cleaning process.
